Robinson Hits The Portal For a Third Time

Durrell Robinson, once viewed as one of the most promising running backs in the 2024 transfer portal, has officially entered the portal again, marking the third transfer of his college career and opening the door to a search for his fourth team.

Robinson originally arrived at Auburn after transferring from UConn, where he enjoyed the most productive season of his career. During the 2024 season with the Huskies, Robinson emerged as one of the top running backs in the portal class, rushing 107 times for 731 yards and eight touchdowns. His combination of vision, burst, and physical running style made him an attractive addition for Auburn’s backfield as the Tigers looked to bolster depth and competition at the position.

Upon his arrival on the Plains, Robinson was widely viewed as a potential rotational piece in Auburn’s running back room. While not projected as the featured back, his experience and production at UConn positioned him as a valuable contributor capable of providing reliable carries and explosive plays when called upon.

Unfortunately, Robinson’s time in an Auburn uniform was cut short due to an unusual and severe injury. He appeared in just two games for the Tigers, carrying the ball three times for 57 yards, flashing the big-play ability that made him a coveted portal addition. Shortly thereafter, a freak medical issue sidelined him for the remainder of the season.

Former Auburn head coach Hugh Freeze detailed the seriousness of the injury during his September 8, 2025 press conference, offering rare insight into the situation.

“Sunday morning, he had a collection of blood, like I have never seen in all my years of coaching, on his thigh,” Freeze said. “And we had to kind of rush him to Birmingham to open that up and get the blood off his leg, and they had to do a pretty good incision on it.”

The injury effectively ended Robinson’s season before it ever had a chance to gain momentum, leaving questions about how he might have fit into Auburn’s offensive plans had he remained healthy.

Now, Robinson once again finds himself navigating the transfer portal, continuing a journey that has taken him from Charlotte to UConn, then Auburn, and now toward a fourth destination. While the repeated transfers may raise questions, Robinson’s proven production, particularly his standout 2024 season at UConn, suggests he still has the ability to contribute meaningfully at the right program.

As he searches for his next opportunity, Robinson will look for a fresh start, a clear role, and the chance to finally showcase his talents over a full season, something injuries and circumstance have so far denied him.
