A Detail Oriented Process

Auburn Football head coach Alex Golesh spoke with the media on Wednesday, offering one of the few public windows into his vision for the program as it moves through the offseason. Golesh struck an optimistic tone, particularly when discussing Auburn’s work in the transfer portal and on the recruiting trail.

Golesh highlighted the significance of bringing in more than 40 new players, emphasizing the balance between experienced transfers and young, developmental talent. That blend, he explained, positions Auburn to compete early, as veteran players can help stabilize the roster while younger players grow within the system. According to Golesh, that mix is critical for a program aiming to return to consistent winning football after not posting a winning season since 2020.

When addressing recruiting, Golesh reiterated his philosophy of a relationship-driven process—one that begins with recruiting and seamlessly transitions into player development. He stressed that success at the highest level requires a detailed, intentional approach, from daily preparation to long-term player growth. It is clear Golesh has wasted little time installing those standards and expectations since arriving on the Plains.

A major point of emphasis during the session was the value of bringing players from his previous coaching stop into the program. Golesh noted that identifying players who can contribute immediately and who already understand the system is essential. He emphasized the importance of proven production, as well as having players who can validate the process for newcomers. Players such as Cole Best and Byrum Brown are key pieces in helping integrate the offense and demonstrate how it is designed to operate.

Golesh was also asked about his confidence level in the offensive line. He expressed belief in the unit, stating that from top to bottom, he feels very good about the room, but also asked if anyone wants to pray with him about the offensive line are welcome to join him. Ideally, he explained, Auburn wants to enter the fall with at least 10 offensive linemen who are fully prepared to play, providing both depth and flexibility as the season progresses.

Looking ahead, Golesh made it clear that the next critical phase is spring football. Health, he said, is the top priority as the team prepares to take the field. Golesh described himself as “giddy” about getting back to coaching on the grass and continuing to build this team through hands-on work and evaluation.

Auburn Football will conclude the spring with its annual Spring Game on April 18, 2026. This will be a key checkpoint in Golesh’s process as the Tigers continue laying the foundation for the future.
