Complete Domination

On a night when college football fans across the country were still asking what kind of team Indiana Hoosiers truly are, Indiana answered with one word: dominance.

From the opening snap to the final kneel-down, the Hoosiers delivered a complete, authoritative performance that left no doubt that they are the most complete football team in America.

Indiana wasted no time setting the tone. On the first play from scrimmage, the Hoosiers intercepted Dante Moore, returning it 25 yards for a pick-six by D’Angelo Bonds. The early shock briefly woke up Oregon Ducks, who answered with a methodical 14-play, 75 yard drive capped by a 19 yard touchdown reception from Jamari Johnson.

That drive, however, would prove to be the high point of Oregon’s first half.

Indiana scored on four of its five offensive possessions before halftime, overwhelming the Ducks on both sides of the ball and building a commanding 35–7 lead at the break. The Hoosiers never took their foot off the gas. Including the final celebratory kneel down, Indiana scored on three of six second half possessions, closing out a decisive 56–22 victory.

Once again, Indiana’s rushing attack set the foundation. The Hoosiers rushed for 185 yards as a team, with Kaelon Black carrying the ball 12 times for 63 yards and two touchdowns while averaging 5.2 yards per carry. The offensive line controlled the line of scrimmage all night, playing with physicality and precision at the point of attack and consistently opening lanes for the running backs. Indiana also capitalized on mistakes, scoring 21 points off three Oregon turnovers.

Defensively, Indiana was just as impressive. The Hoosiers forced three turnovers and sacked Moore three times, consistently disrupting Oregon’s rhythm. Creative twists and stunts up front generated pressure, forced hurried throws, and led to multiple incompletions. Indiana held Oregon to fewer than 100 rushing yards and kept the Ducks’ up tempo offense firmly in check from start to finish.

Quarterback Fernando Mendoza was the perfect conductor of Indiana’s offensive symphony. On his opening drive, Mendoza went a flawless 4 of 4 for 41 yards and a touchdown. He finished the night completing 85 percent of his passes for 177 yards and five touchdowns. Mendoza spread the ball around, throwing scores to four different receivers. Elijah Sarratt led the way with two touchdown receptions, adding five catches for 75 yards in a standout performance.

Indiana has officially arrived.

With this emphatic win, the Hoosiers have shown the college football world that they belong on the sport’s biggest stage and must be taken seriously by opponents and fans alike. Indiana will now travel to Miami, Florida, to face the Miami Hurricanes on January 19, with the College Football Playoff National Championship trophy, and college football supremacy, on the line.
